The laboratory uses an automated system to test the level of the hair`s combability after the application of a conditioning formulation under strictly controlled conditions. Another piece of equipment assesses hair breakage by repeatedly combing the hair, and uses the amount of broken hairs to determine the conditioning effect of the formulation. The laboratory tests more than 500 shampoo, conditioner and styling product formulations each year. Over 50 kilograms of hair are needed for this research.
